Adventure Touring Part IV  By Bob Holcomb

Selecting your steed is just the beginning. Accessorizing for the deed is the ongoing pursuit. Most of us go right to performance or bling, but adventure touring adds a whole new dimension. You’ll want equipment that allows you to ride no matter what the conditions. You’ll want equipment that helps you get there; and you’ll want equipment that makes it easier.

 Tea, anyone…?

Don’t think of it as a camp stove! The Jetboil’s real value is in its road going handiness. It is a uniquely self-contained design, compact enough to fit in a corner of your tank bag. It sets up and boils water in less time then it takes to pump gas. You can stop, have a hot beverage or soup, and be down the road in 15 minutes. On the long trail, I actually do that a couple times a day, which helps me make that last fuel.

Cycle World, January 2005:

“Boil water for coffee, oatmeal or pasta in about a minute with a canister stove so small it slips easily into a saddlebag . . .”

Cruising Rider, March 2005:

“The efficient cooker means fewer fuel canisters, saving weight, money and space in your bike’s saddlebag for other things . . . the camp and ride set will appreciate its compactness and light weight.”

BMW Owner’s News, August 2004:

“With a total weight of only 14 ounces and a street price of $79.95, it’s easy to fit a Jetboil stove into your saddlebag and budget before your next sojourn.”   For the entire review, click on BMW Owners News.
